Cinderpearls are mystical flowers that are often found in deserts. Their only purpose is to provide the player with a means to acquire blaze powder without visiting the nether.

These flowers give off the same flame and smoke particle effects as torches, making them to appear to be glowing like cinders, hence their name.

Obtaining[]

Breaking[]

Cinderpearls, like vanilla Minecraft flowers, can be instantly broken with any item or by hand.

They will also break when liquids like water or flux goo run over them, or if a piston extends or pushes a block into their location.

Natural generation[]

Cinderpearls generate on sand or red sand blocks in any biome with a topsoil layer consisting of sand and a temperature greater than 1.0. In vanilla Minecraft, this includes the desert and desert hills biomes. Each chunk that meets these requirements will have a 1/30 chance to spawn a group of cinderpearls. When a group generates, flowers will attempt to generate anywhere within a 17x17x9 volume around a randomly chosen block at the surface, with flowers preferring to generate closer to the center than farther away. 18 cinderpearls will try to generate in each group, but since many of the locations they will attempt to generate at will not meet the spawning requirement of being an empty block above a sand block, most of these attempts will fail. The actual number of cinderpearls generated tends to be lower, around three to six per group.

Usage[]

Cinderpearl

Three cinderpearls growing in the desert.

Cinderpearls may be placed by the player on sand or red sand blocks as decoration.

Light source[]

Cinderpearls give off a respectable light level of 7, similar to that of a redstone torch. It shares this behavior with shimmerleafs, vishrooms, and silverwood saplings.

History[]

Version Changes
4.0.0 Added cinderpearls.
4.1.1.9 Cinderpearls will now drop themselves when broken by hand without any tool. Previously, 1-2 blaze powder would be dropped when broken by hand, affected by Fortune, and collecting the flower required breaking it with shears.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike vanilla Minecraft flowers, cinderpearls cannot be planted in flower pots.
  • Due to the way cinderpearls and shimmerleafs share world generation code, it is possible for a cinderpearl to naturally generate on a grass block if a grass block happens to naturally generate in or close to a valid spawn location for cinderpearls (such as at a biome boundary).
  • Cinderpearls share their block ID with greatwood saplings, silverwood saplings, shimmerleafs, ethereal blooms, and vishrooms.
    • The metadata value for cinderpearls is 3.

Thaumonomicon entry[]

Found only in the hottest of climes, these plants burn with elemental fire. They can be harvested and ground to produce a fine powder akin to Blaze powder.
